Another Case of Packworthiness

packworthy Another Case of Packworthiness

With a special nod to the floundering economy, I’m going to present a sub-$10 Packworthy tool. It was seen in an earlier article about another Packworthy item: Eneloop batteries. There isn’t much to say about it, but for under $10, you shouldn’t expect that level of intricacy.

Back from the Dead… and on a Mission

1 Back from the Dead... and on a MissionUpon my return from Costa Rica last week, I discovered that my web hosting service was under a DDOS attack, so all web services like email and this site’s management were affected by the situation. Still can’t upload images to my server. All the more reason for me to extend my vacation mindset – for now I’m still on ‘Tico time.’

I really shouldn’t neglect my site. After all, the discipline to post regularly is a key factor in what makes a website successful. SEO and Google-payola help, but if you don’t post, you lose your audience, so it doesn’t matter how many people click-through.

Found ‘Round the Web… Voices of Dissent

global logo 225x225 Found Round the Web... Voices of DissentA colleague forwarded me this article recently posted on Luminous Landscape.

It really ruined my day… It turns out that the MFT camera + Leica M-lens combo apparently looks better on paper that it is in practice. I still have hopes for the “format” or this genre of camera, and would love to hear from others who are having different successes or failures with their G1 and M-class glass.

Update: It seems that I am not the only one with mixed feelings about the G1, but overwhelmingly optimistic about forthcoming MFT cameras.

Fight or Flight (site update)

1 Fight or Flight (site update)Folks, I´m headed out of town for a couple of weeks for a much needed holiday. Too much bickering, politics and infighting.

For my escape, I have packed with me many of the tools and gimmicks that should make it possible for me to live out of a carry-on bag for two weeks. I am cheating a bit with a new toy that I have recently stumbled upon. I might be the first to review it… I´m speaking of the North Face Flyweight Rucksack, one of five flyweight bags that fold up into a tiny pouch not much smaller than your average travel poncho. Will elaborate upon my return. In the menatime enjoy the archive. I promise I´ll have some good stuff when I get back.

A Very Packworthy Episode of…

packworthy A Very Packworthy Episode of…

I have juggled several SLR camera systems over the past 25 years -chronologically: Minolta, Pentax, Canon, Nikon, back to Canon and now Fujifilm. I have never had any substantial regrets after jumping from one religion to the next – with one exception. There is one very simple and inexpensive device that I have a great affinity for; one that is inexplicably only available for one brand and type of camera. There are second-rate and incompetent copies out there, but yet another design flaw seems to prevent the most of the photographic world from using one. More after the jump…

First Official Packcamera Packworthy Product

packworthy First Official Packcamera Packworthy Product

I figure I should live up to the words of my manifesto and introduction and share a truly Packworthy item. Eventually, I’ll develop a scale or find some nifty WordPress plug-in that will facilitate rating them. In the meantime, I’ll say that the item in question ranks way up there on the chart.

As much as I admire the renowned wildlife photographer Moose Peterson, reading at one of his recent blog posts, it is very apparent that the man could use a packmaster’s intervention

The One Blatant Fail Point of All Camera-Specific Backpacks

I am vehemently against poor design – this specific design flaw I have taken upon the task to fix; is my crusade. I have obsessed over this issue for quite some time in regards to photo packs. You see, all of the photo-packs out there share a single negative trait. Simply put: they all suck. Some manufacturers who just make products to fill spots in a product line are not as much to blame as companies like Lowepro and Mountainsmith who have a strong history designing technical hiking and camping backpacks. What is the design flaw? Read more and find out after the jump.
